When given the prompt of designing a small rug, I was immediately drawn to the idea of the rug as an object that would communicate visually with the “user” when it was interacted with. The nearest visualization I could think of in this context, was a pair of hands that would seem to be holding/lifting up whoever interacted with rug. Executing this vision was a labor of love and I spent many hours tying each individual knot to make the raised surface of the hands. Besides the tufting technique used on the hands, I experimented with different weaves to create unique patterns for the background.
